Senior Staff Nurse – Orthopedics
Newcastle Under Lyme

Dream Medical are looking for an experienced Senior Staff Nurse, Orthopaedic Scrub with the ability to inspire others to deliver the highest standards of patient care, to join a dynamic team in North Staffordshire, Newcastle-under-Lyme.
Reporting to the Theatre Manager, you'll be part of a multidisciplinary team. You'll get to work with some of the best clinical talent around and experience with new practices, equipment and facilities, all of which are maintained to our high standards.
Your key accountabilities will be to provide day-to-day supervision, including clinical supervision of junior nursing staff and students of the department, with responsibilities including all or most of the following:
• Running busy Orthopaedic and spine lists ensuring high quality care is maintained.
• Orthopaedic lead with expert ability and knowledge of a variety of hip and knee replacements ability to teach junior staff.
• Extensive spinal surgery experience including instrumented fusion and disc replacements.
• Overseeing prosthesis and consumable stock levels working closely with supplies department.
• Involvement in recruitment, induction, performance review, attendance management, disciplinary and grievance matters
• Competency assessment, training, development and the mentoring of staff
• Ensure work is carried out efficiently and to agreed working practice and protocols
As a nurse or practitioner registered with the appropriate governing body, you'll have the qualifications required for registration. A qualification in teaching and assessment is preferred, as is a professional management qualification, such as NVQ level 2 or 3. Immediate Life Support is preferred and Advanced Life Support is desirable.
You'll have experience of multispecialty surgical procedures, plus further professional training, experience and, preferably, a qualification in a specialist area. You'll also have excellent clinical skills and experience of being in a mentoring role.
You'll be an excellent communicator and team worker – flexible and motivated. As part of the wider hospital team, you'll interact with practitioners from other areas because you understand that continuity in patient care is imperative.
